OVERSEAS MERIT SCHOLARSHIPS

Singapore's Ministry of Education came up with the policy of overseas merit scholarships to encourage Singaporeans to work harder for a better future.

Local talents are rare to find. So, the government comes up with scholarships, hoping to encourage Singaporean students by giving them a chance to furthur their studies overseas with the help of scholarships. This especially would spur the financially tight students to work harder for a better future as it gives them a good opportunity for them to go overseas without having to worry about financial burdens. It helps to furthur develop talents because the award is only given to outstanding students with strong leadership abilities. Also, it is not easy because those awarded the scholarships would have to study extremely hard as they are accountable to the government and have to live up to expectations set for them.

Studying overseas is good exposure to another country's education system and a different culture. Also, one will learn how to be independant being away from one's family. Furthurmore, it allows us to develop a global view while still being faithful and loyal to our country because after finishing your studies, you will have to come back and serve the country.

This allows Singapore to address the problem of few local talents. As such, scholarships allows us to have a chance to have an overseas education, and it allows Singapore to keep her talented people in the country. As time goes by, Singapore will have more talents serving the country.

In the long run, with more talents serving in the country, Singapore's economy will definitely benefit. Students who have studied abroad would hopefully bring back creativity and more innovative minds. As our economy benefits, Singapore will prosper and standards of living will be raised.

All in all, the overseas merit scholarship is definitely beneficial to the people and to the country.
